MLB: Oakland 8, Seattle 3

SEATTLE, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Dan Johnson drove in three runs Sunday in pacing the Oakland Athletics to an 8-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners.

Oakland ended the season 88-74 and second in the AL West. Seattle was fourth in the division at 69-93.

Joe Kennedy (8-13) pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts and no walks. It was his first win since an Aug. 27 victory at Baltimore. He had been winless in his last six outings, losing five of them.

Tied at 3-3, Oakland exploded for five runs in the eighth inning. George Sherrill (4-3) came on in relief of Felix Hernandez and allowed a single to Nick Swisher, a walk to Mark Ellis and a run-scoring double to Eric Chavez. Johnson singled home two more runs to make it a 6-3 game.

Julio Mateo came out of the bullpen and gave up a ground-rule double to Marco Scutaro. Matt Watson then chased home Johnson with a single and Freddie Bynum plated the final run of the inning one out later with a double.
