Newman edges Stewart to win Sylvania 300

LOUDON, N.H., Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Ryan Newman won the Sylvania 300 at the New Hampshire International Speedway Sunday in the first round of the 10-race "Chase for the Nextel Cup."

Newman finished 0.293 seconds ahead of runner-up Tony Stewart for his first victory of the season and 12th of his "Cup" career.

Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle and Dale Earnhardt Jr. completed the top-five.

The second race in the "Chase" is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 25, at the Dover International Speedway in Dover, Del.
