MLB: St, Louis 4, Pittsburgh 3

ST. LOUIS, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- John Rodriguez singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to lift St. Louis over Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-3, Monday night.

Skip Schumaker scored the winning run for the Cardinals who reduced their magic number to win the NL Central to four games.

Jason Isringhausen (1-1) got the win, pitching a perfect top of the inning. St. Louis managed only six hits in the game, winning for the fourth time in five outings.

Salomon Torres (4-5) suffered the loss, pitching 1 1/3 innings. Ty Wigginton and Brad Eldred each had three hits for the Pirates, who have dropped three in a row.
