MLB: San Diego 5, Arizona 3

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- A three-run homer from Brian Giles lifted the San Diego Padres to a 5-3 decision over the Arizona Diamondbacks at PETCO Park.

Joe Randa added a solo homer and scored two runs for the Padres, while pitcher Jake Peavy (12-6) was the winner after allowing three runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out eight and walked two.

For the Diamondbacks, Troy Glaus smacked a two-run homer and Luis Gonzalez added a solo shot.

Brad Halsey (8-12) took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits over six innings. He walked two and fanned two.
