MLB: N.Y. Mets 9, Chi. Cubs 5

NEW YORK, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- The New York Mets erupted for six second-inning runs Friday night on the way to a 9-5 win over the Chicago Cubs.

In the big inning, both Mike Cameron and Cliff Floyd hit two-run singles.

Miguel Cairo and Jose Reyes both added two hits for the Mets, making a loser of Cubs left-hander Richard Hill (0-1) in his third major league start. Hill gave up seven runs and seven hits in just 1 1/3 innings with two walks and one strikeout.

Winner Tom Glavine improved to 8-9. He yielded five runs and 10 hits over eight innings with no walks and two strikeouts.

The Mets had 14 hits overall.

Aramis Ramirez, who knocked in two runs, and Derek Lee both homered and Michael Barrett added two RBI for the Cubs.

The Mets are 4-7 in the last 11 games. The Cubs now have dropped three in a row and five of six of 6 overall.
