Scott Niedermayer signs with Anaheim

ANAHEIM, Calif., Aug. 4 (UPI) -- The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim signed Scott Niedermayer and resigned his brother Rob, putting them on the same team for the first time in their NHL careers.

Scott Niedermayer, a defenseman, and Rob Niedermayer, who switches between center and right wing, both agreed Thursday to four-year deals with Anaheim, the team said.

Scott Niedermayer had been weighing offers from several other clubs, including his former team, New Jersey.

"Scott Niedermayer is one of the top defensemen in the game today whose skating, puck-moving ability and leadership qualities make him a great addition to our team," said Ducks General Manager Brian Burke.

"Rob has already proven his worth to the organization with his physical style of play, speed and versatility. He was a critical component to the team during the 2003 Stanley Cup playoff run."

Scott Niedermayer, 31, spent 12 seasons with New Jersey and earned the Norris Trophy as the NHL's top defenseman in 2003-04.

In 11 seasons, Rob Niedermayer, 30, has 28 points and 207 assists.
