MLB: Tampa Bay 7, Kansas City 3

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., July 30 (UPI) -- Jonny Gomes hit three home runs Saturday to help Tampa Bay beat the Kansas City Royals, 7-3.

Gomes became the first player in Devil Rays' history to hit three homers in one game. Joey Gathright added three hits and one RBI and Toby Hall went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored for the Devil Rays, who have won seven of nine overall.

Winner Doug Waechter rose to 4-6. He yielded three runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings with two walks and two strikeouts. He picked up his first victory since June 13.

Losing pitcher Zack Greinke sank to 3-13. He surrendered five runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings with two walks and four strikeouts.

Terrence Long homered for the Royals, who have dropped four of their last six games.
