Braves put Tim Hudson on disabled list

ATLANTA, June 16 (UPI) -- Atlanta Braves right-hander Tim Hudson was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday because of a strained left oblique (abdominal) muscle.

He initially suffered the injury while pitching against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on June 8 and was bothered by it in his last outing Monday against Texas, when he was hammered for five runs and five hits in 2 2/3 innings.

He had a similar ailment at the start of the 2004 season while with Oakland. The 29-year-old Hudson, who was obtained in an off-season trade with the Athletics, is 6-5 with an ERA of 3.78 so far this season.

He joins other Atlanta starters Mike Hampton (forearm) and John Thomson (hand) on the disabled list. Hudson has gone 0-2 with a 7.90 ERA in his three starts in June.
