MLB: Boston 8, Chi. Cubs 1

CHICAGO, June 12 (UPI) -- The Boston Red Sox clubbed four home runs Sunday night in an 8-1 rout of the Chicago Cubs.

The two teams met each other this weekend for the first time since the 1918 World Series.

Johnny Damon and Kevin Youkilis each had three hits apiece for Boston, which avoided a three-game sweep.

Winning pitcher Tim Wakefield, who had lost his last five decisions, improved to 5-6 for the season. He allowed just one run on four hits with no walks and three strikeouts over seven innings.

Loser Glendon Rusch was touched for 11 hits and five runs in 5 2/3 innings with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Manny Ramirez and Jay Payton also homered for the Red Sox. Derrek Lee doubled twice and scored Chicago's only run.
