Kyle Turley cut loose by St. Louis Rams

ST. LOUIS, June 10 (UPI) -- The St. Louis Rams have confirmed the release of veteran offensive tackle Kyle Turley.

It initially was reported by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Monday but was not confirmed by the team until Thursday.

The 6-5, 309-pound Turley, a first-round draft pick by New Orleans in 1998 out of San Diego State, missed the 2004 season because of a back injury.

Turley, 28, signed a six-year contract with the Rams in 2003 after being acquired in a trade with the Saints. Reports have indicated the team owes him $250,000 and will take a $1.82 million salary cap hit this season and $5.47 million in 2006.

Turley was involved in a much-publicized shouting match with Rams Coach Mike Martz in March, during which Martz claimed he was threatened.

When he was healthy, Turley was considered one of the NFL's steadiest offensive linemen.
