TALLADEGA, Ala., May 1 (UPI) -- Jeff Gordon won the Aaron's 499 Nextel Cup race Sunday at the Talladega Superspeedway, finishing 0.193 seconds ahead of runner-up Tony Stewart.
It was Gordon's third victory of the season and 72nd of his Cup career. He led 139 of 193 laps.

Michael Waltrip was third, Jeremy Mayfield fourth, and Jamie McMurray fifth.
Gordon was dominant, leading 76 of the first 100 laps.
An accident on lap 132 involved at least 25 cars. It started when Mike Wallace was bumped from behind by Dale Earnhardt Jr. and slid into Jimmie Johnson in turn one. That turned Wallace sideways, blocking the track, and the rest of the cars involved piled into the logjam.
