PITTSBURGH, April 16 (UPI) -- Neifi Perez doubled in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning Saturday as the Chicago Cubs held on for a 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Chicago's Ryan Dempster (1-2), working six innings, gave up three runs on six hits, walked three and struck out five.
Cubs reliever Chad Fox pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning, and LaTroy Hawkins worked around a hit in the ninth to record his first save of the season.
Matt Lawton homered for the Pirates.
Kip Wells (0-3) took the loss in 6 1/3 innings. He was charged with four runs on six hits, with six strikeouts and four walks.
