CHICAGO, April 13 (UPI) -- The San Diego Padres hit four home runs and beat the Chicago Cubs 8-3 Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader.
Geoff Blum hit two homers, Ryan Klesko and Brian Giles also homered and Xavier Nady had four hits, including two doubles, and drove in a run.

Corey Patterson hit a home run for the Cubs.
Jake Peavey (1-0) got the win, allowing six hits and two runs in seven innings. The loser was Chicago starter Kerry Wood (0-1), who was battered for seven runs in 6 1/3 innings.
