DiMarco leads after second round

AUGUSTA, Ga., April 9 (UPI) -- Chris DiMarco, trying to fight off the charging Tiger Woods, led by four shots Saturday when darkness fell midway through the third round of the Masters.

It was a sunrise-to-sunset work day at the Augusta National Golf Club with the rain-delayed second round completed in the morning and the third round starting late in the afternoon.

DiMarco's second straight 67 gave him a five-shot lead at the 36-hole mark and he then played the front nine of the third round in 3-under 33.

Woods, who completed a 66 in the morning (the low round of the tournament), shot a 31 on the front nine in the gathering twilight.

DiMarco stood at 13-under and Woods was at 9-under. Thomas Bjorn was alone in third at 8-under through nine holes as the tournament appeared to be a three-man race.

No one else was closer to the lead than nine shots.

Vijay Singh, Rod Pampling and Mark Hensby were all at 4-under while defending champion Phil Mickelson was among those at 3-under.
