MLB: Baltimore 4, Oakland 0

BALTIMORE, April 4 (UPI) -- Rodrigo Lopez threw six shutout innings Friday and Luis Matos blasted a two-run homer as Baltimore blanked Oakland, 4-0.

Sammy Sosa, in his Baltimore debut, had two singles while Melvin Mora and Rafael Palmeiro both drove in a run.

It was Baltimore's fifth straight Opening Day victory.

Lopez allowed six singles with one walk and two strikeouts.

The shutout was completed by one inning each from Steve Kline, Jorge Julio and B.J. Ryan.

Barry Zito took the loss while surrendering four runs in six innings. Prior to Friday, Zito had allowed only two earned runs in 28 1/3 innings at Camden Yards.
