INDIAN WELLS, Calif., March 17 (UPI) -- Lindsay Davenport moved into the semifinals of the Pacific Life Open Thursday by defeating Nathalie Dechy for the seventh time in as many tries.
Davenport survived a first-set tiebreaker to eliminate Dechy, 7-6 (7-2), 6-0.

The world's top ranked player is trying for her third championship in this elite event.
Davenport will face Maria Sharapova in Friday's semifinal. The other semifinal will send Elena Dementieva against Kim Clijsters.
Davenport is 18-2 this season and has won eight matches in a row.
Sharapova earned a meeting with Davenport thanks to a 6-4, 6-3 decision over Mary Pierce. Sharapova has beaten Davenport in their only two matches.
