Henman and Davenport win at Indian Wells

INDIAN WELLS, Calif., March 14 (UPI) -- Two-time runner-up Tim Henman and top-ranked Lindsay Davenport were both third-round winners Monday at the $2.8 million Pacific Life Open.

Englishman Henman defeated Austrian lefthander Jurgen Melzer 7-5, 6-4. Herman lost to Roger Federer in last year's final here and to Lleyton Hewitt in the 2002 final.

Davenport beat fellow American Meghann Shaughnessy 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 in 1 hour, 47 minutes. The Australian Open runner-up has won her last six matches, including the Dubai championship two weeks ago.

Henman next plays Spaniard Tommy Robredo, who posted a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) victory against 2000 Indian Wells runner-up Thomas Enqvist of Sweden.

Davenport, 28, is a two-time Indian Wells champion and has been the runner-up here the past two years.
