NBA: Minnesota 99, Boston 97

BOSTON, March 6 (UPI) -- Latrell Sprewell scored with barely a second left Sunday night to give the Minnesota Timberwolves a 99-97 victory over the Boston Celtics.

Kevin Garnett had 21 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists and Wally Szczerbiak 20 points for the Timberwolves, who have won three of their last four games.

Ricky Davis scored 22 points for the Celtics but missed on a chance to tie the game at the buzzer. Antoine Walker added 16 points for Boston, which suffered its first loss in its last five games.

Gary Payton had 17 points and six assists in his return to the Celtics. Boston re-signed Payton Friday after the veteran point guard spent a brief time in Atlanta. Payton went to the Hawks as part of the Walker deal, but Boston negotiated a buyout of his contract.
