COL BKB: Villanova 76, Boston Col. 70

VILLANOVA, Pa., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Key shots by Randy Foye and Curtis Sumpter down the stretch Wednesday night boosted Villanova to a 76-70 upset win over No. 3 Boston College.

The Eagles lost for only the second time this season and perhaps put a dent in their hopes for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Foye had 23 points and Sumpter had 20 for 24th-ranked Villanova, which improved to 18-6 and to 8-5 in the Big East.

A baseline jumper by Foye that glanced high off the backboard gave Villanova a five-point lead with 43.4 seconds and Sumpter soon made it a seven-point cushion with two free throws.

Boston College (22-2, 11-2) was led by Craig Smith with 18 points.

Villanova made 36 free throws to 17 for Boston College.
