McNair to sit out rest of the season

NASHVILLE, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- The Tennessee Titans announced Friday quarterback Steve McNair would sit out the remaining three games of the season.

McNair is suffering from a bruised sternum that will likely require surgery. The injury has plagued him throughout the season.

After struggling throughout the first half of the season, McNair has not played in the Titans' last five games. Tennessee is 4-0 this season.

McNair, who has played 10 years, has hinted at retirement.

Billy Volek, who has replaced McNair in the starting lineup, threw for 426 yards last Monday in a loss to Kansas City.
