Marion Jones sues BALCO chief

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Olympic sprinter Marion Jones filed a $25 million defamation lawsuit Wednesday against the controversial head of BALCO, Victor Conte.

Conte said on a television news program last week that he had watched Jones inject herself with steroids.

Jones, the winner of five medals at the Sydney Olympics but none in Athens, has denied using steroids.

Conte was indicted along with three others earlier this year on a charge of illegally distributing steroids.

During the grand jury investigation leading to the indictment, baseball superstar Barry Bonds reportedly admitted taking steroids. He told the grand jury, however, that he did not know what he was taking at the time.
