Adrian Beltre has ankle surgery

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Adrian Beltre underwent arthroscopic surgery Thursday for removal of bone spurs on his left ankle.

Beltre, who led the major leagues with 48 home runs this season, had his surgery on the same day he declared for free agency, which means he could sign with another club for 2005.

The slugger's rehabilitation is expected to take four weeks, General Manager Paul DePodesta said.

Other Dodgers who will have off-season surgery include outfielder Jayson Werth (elbow) and relief pitcher Darren Dreifort (knee).
