MLB: Anaheim 8, Texas 7 (11 inn.)

ARLINGTON, Texas, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- A two-run homer by Troy Glaus in the 11th inning Wednesday night gave Anaheim an 8-7 win over Texas and put the Angels atop the AL West.

The Rangers, one of baseball's biggest surprises this year, were eliminated from the playoff chase.

Glaus scored three times in helping the Angels win their fifth straight game. With Oakland falling to Seattle, Anaheim moved one game in front of the Athletics in the chase for the division title.

Oakland and Anaheim will meet three times over the weekend.

Michael Young had two hits to break the Rangers' single-season record. He has 212, surpassing the 24-year-old record of Micky Rivers.

Texas has lost five of six.
