Rose not invited to Reds' big gala

CINCINNATI, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- The Cincinnati Reds are making plans for their Hall of Fame and Museum gala -- but Pete Rose isn't invited.

There's plenty of Rose's baseball accomplishments shown off in the museum. But his banishment from baseball for gambling keeps him also out of the Reds Hall of Fame and off the Sept. 20 guest list, the Cincinnati Enquirer said Friday.

"Since he's not in the Reds' Hall, unfortunately, he's not invited," said John Allen, the Reds chief operating officer. "We have to abide by Major League Baseball rules in that regard."

Among those who say they will be there are Sparky Anderson, Tony Perez, Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Ken Griffey, Jack Billingham, Clay Carroll, Dave Concepcion and George Foster.

Rose also won't be at Great American Ball Park for Joe Nuxhall Tribute Night a week from Saturday either. Same reason.
