Mutombo traded to Rockets

HOUSTON, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- The Chicago Bulls sent center Dikembe Mutombo to Houston on Wednesday for guards Adrian Griffin, Eric Piatkowski and Mike Wilks.

Mutombo will serve as a backup to Yao Ming.

"With the addition of Dikembe, we have bolstered our interior defense and rebounding," said General Manager Carroll Dawson. Dikembe has had a long distinguished career, but can still contribute on a nightly basis. We feel fortunate to be adding him to our team."

Mutombo has played for Denver, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New Jersey and New York in a 13-year career.

He has averaged 11.7 points and 11.7 rebounds over 929 career NBA contests.
