MLB: Oakland 5, Detroit 4

OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Eric Chavez slammed a three-run homer for Oakland in a 5-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers Tuesday.

The Athletics have won 13 of 17 and Detroit has lost seven of eight.

Barry Zito (8-8) got the win, yielding five hits and three runs in seven innings. Octavio Dotel pitched the ninth and picked up a save.

Erubiel Durazo added three hits to the Athletics' attack.

Carlos Pena hit a home run for Detroit.

Jason Johnson (8-10) was the losing pitcher, giving up six hits and five runs in 5 2/3 innings.
