Hull offered contract by Phoenix Coyotes

PHOENIX, July 28 (UPI) -- Brett Hull, one of the National Hockey League's all-time top scorers, is apparently considering an offer to join the Phoenix Coyotes.

Phoenix has offered Hull, who turns 40 Aug. 9, a two-year contract, the Arizona Republic reported Wednesday.

Hull, a free agent right wing, played for the Detroit Red Wings the past three seasons.

Coyotes General Manager Mike Barnett was Hull's agent when the player was in St. Louis, and Hull and Wayne Gretzky, Phoenix managing partner, are friends.

Only former stars Gretzky and Gordie Howe scored more goals than Hull, who has 741, in the NHL. Hull passed Phil Esposito and Marcell Dionne last season and is within 60 goals of Howe's total.

Hull has also played for Calgary and Dallas. He has been on Stanley Cup winners with Dallas and Detroit.
