ANAHEIM, Calif., July 27 (UPI) -- Gary Matthews hit a three-run home run as Texas beat Oakland 6-1 Monday.
Matthews' homer, his eighth of the season, came in the fifth inning and gave the Rangers a 6-0 lead. He also doubled in the fourth.

Michael Young led off in the first inning with a solo home run and Laynce Nix drove in two runs for Texas.
Jose Guillen knocked in Oakland's only run with a fifth-inning single.
Right-hander Ryan Drese (7-5) was the winner, with help from relievers Frank Francisco, Jeff Nelson and Francisco Cordero.
Kelvim Escobar (5-8) took the loss, allowing allowing eight hits and all of the Texas runs in 7 1/3 innings.
