Rasheed stays with Pistons

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., July 23 (UPI) -- The NBA champion Detroit Pistons signed forward Rasheed Wallace to a multiyear contract, the team announced Friday.

"I'm definitely glad to be coming back here," Wallace said. "It's good. It's definitely great to be back."

Terms were not disclosed but various reports said the contract is for five years.

Wallace played most of last season with the Portland Trail Blazers, then joined the Atlanta Hawks for a single game before he went to the Pistons in a three-team trade in February.

The 6-foot-11, 230-pound Wallace started 21 games for Detroit and helped lead the Pistons to the 2004 title.

"We are pleased to have reached an agreement with Rasheed Wallace," said Joe Dumars, the team's president of basketball operations.

"Rasheed played a key role for us during the title run and keeping him here in Detroit was at the top of our off-season priority list. His talent and unselfishness on the court will continue to pay dividends for our team as we move forward."
