Seattle trades Rich Aurilia to San Diego

SEATTLE, July 19 (UPI) -- The Seattle Mariners traded shortstop Rich Aurilia to the San Diego Padres Monday.

Seattle gets a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Aurilia was designated for assignment by the Mariners on July 10. Seattle had 10 days to release, trade or send him to the minors. This season he is batting .241 with four home runs and 28 RBI in 73 games.

He led NL shortstops in homers and RBI in straight seasons from 1999-2001 and hit .324 as an All-Star in 2001. After eight seasons with the San Francisco Giants, he signed a one-year contract with the Mariners in the offseason.
