PGA player Jeff Julian dies of ALS

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla., July 15 (UPI) -- PGA Tour player Jeff Julian died Thursday of Lou Gehrig's disease.

Julian, who was 43, was diagnosed with the disease, formally known as amyotrophic lateral schlerosis, or ALS, in October of 2001, the PGA Tour reported.

He continued to play on tour the following year, entering seven events.

Julian's death came just over three months after the same disease took the life of Bruce Edwards, the longtime caddy of golf star Tom Watson.

Edwards, Julian and Watson formed an organization named Driving4Life to raise money for the ALS Therapy Development Foundation.
