Royal Troon's winds OK with Woods

TROON, Scotland, July 13 (UPI) -- Tiger Woods says it's OK with him if it gets windy at Royal Troon during the British Open.

Windy conditions reward players "who are striking the ball well, and it forces you to hit different shots and be more creative and work with the golf ball," Woods said Tuesday as he prepared for the tournament he won in 2000.

Woods said he likes the Royal Troon course.

"I think it is set up very fair," he said in a report on the tournament's Web site. "The rough is spotty -- there's some places where it's pretty deep. But I think the whole golf course is dependent on the weather. If that wind blows it becomes quite a challenge and your lines and the clubs you hit off the tees and approach shots are completely different.

"If it doesn't blow, then the guys are going to shoot some good numbers."

Woods tees off in Thursday's first round in a threesome with Lee Westwood and Greg Norman.
