MLB: Colorado 6, San Diego 5

SAN DIEGO, July 10 (UPI) -- Mark Sweeney drilled a tie-breaking two-run homer off Trevor Hoffman in the ninth as Colorado rallied for a 6-5 win late Friday over San Diego.

Sweeney batted with two outs and a runner on first, going ahead in the count 3-1 when Hoffman grooved a fastball. Sweeney connected with a blast that eluded center fielder Jay Payton's leaping try at the wall.

Hoffman (2-1) entered the ninth inning with a 4-3 lead and issued a leadoff walk to Larry Walker before Preston Wilson followed with an RBI double to saddle Hoffman with his third blown save in 25 chances. The Padres' closer retired the next two hitters before Sweeney entered and ended an 0-for-11 slide as a pinch hitter.

Colorado reliever Tim Harikkala (3-1) pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the win. Closer Shawn Chacon allowed a two-out RBI single to Ryan Klesko in the ninth inning that cut the lead to 6-5.

Sean Burroughs singled to put runners on the corners before Chacon fanned Khalil Greene for his 20th save in 26 chances.
