Armstrong disputes book claims

SILVER SPRING, Md., June 15 (UPI) -- Five-time Tour De France champion Lance Armstrong denies accusations that he used performance-enhancing drugs and will sue to clear his name.

Armstrong responded Tuesday to claims made in a French-language book, "L.A. Confidential, the Secrets of Lance Armstrong." In the book, a former staff member of Armstrong's team claims Armstrong asked her to dispose of used syringes and lent him makeup to conceal needle marks in his arm.

The book is co-written by David Welsh, a sports writer of the Sunday Times in London, and French writer Pierre Ballester. Excerpts of the book were published on Monday.

"I can absolutely confirm that we don't use doping products," Armstrong said of his cycling team," Armstrong said. "We've heard (accusations) before. Everytime we've let it pass, but we couldn't let this one pass. Enough is enough."

Armstrong said he has instructed his lawyers to immediately institute libel proceedings in Europe.
