Love goes for No. 6 at Heritage Classic

HILTON HEAD, S.C., April 14 (UPI) -- Defending champion Davis Love III will try for his sixth title in the tournament now known as the MCI Heritage Classic in South Carolina.

Love won last year's tournament in a playoff with Woody Austin and also won in 1987, 1991, 1992 and 1998.

The Heritage has had different names over the years, becoming the MCI Heritage in 2003.

Among highly ranked players competing on the par-71, 6,927-yard Harbour Town Golf Links course are South Africans Ernie Els, the Masters runnerup, and Retief Goosen.

Masters champion Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh and several other top stars are not entered.

First prize is $864,000.
