Sadler holds off Kahne to win NASCAR 500

FORT WORTH, Texas, April 4 (UPI) -- Elliott Sadler held off a charging Kasey Kahne on Sunday and won the NASCAR Nextel Cup Samsung/RadioShack 500 by a nose at Texas Motor Speedway.

Driving a Dodge Intrepid, Kahne closed on Sadler's Ford Taurus in the closing laps, but the driver from Emporia, Va., won by 0.028 seconds.

Jeff Gordon was third, followed by Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Rusty Wallace.

It was the second career win for Sadler, whose other victory came 108 races ago on March 25, 2001 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Kahne, NASCAR's newest star, twice has come up just a few feet short of victory. He lost to Matt Kenseth by .010 seconds on Feb. 22 at Rockingham.

Kahne had the lead over Joe Nemechek and Jimmie Johnson on the 250th lap. But he, Nemechek and Bill Elliott made green flag pit stops 13 laps later. When Ward Burton crashed four laps later, Kahne was shuffled back in the field.
