FORT WORTH, Texas, April 2 (UPI) -- Bobby Labonte won the pole Friday for Sunday's NASCAR Samsung/RadioShack 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
It was the second straight year he has won the pole for this race.
Labonte turned in a lap of 193.903 miles per hour in a Chevrolet Monte Carlo and knocked the semi-retired Bill Elliott off the pole.
Elliott set the track qualifying record of 194.224 mph in 2002.
"The car stuck like glue," Labonte said. "It was a pretty good lap. The guys gave me a great qualifying car."
Rookie Kasey Kahne was third-fastest at 193.673 mph in a Dodge. Kahne replaced Elliott -- who is running his second race of the year -- as a full-time driver at Ray Evernham Motorsports this season.
Greg Biffle qualified fourth in a Ford Taurus at 193.195, with Joe Nemechek rounding out the top five in a Chevrolet at 193.188 mph.
