HARRISONBURG, Va., March 8 (UPI) -- Sherman Dillard has resigned as basketball coach at James Madison following a 7-21 season.
The resignation was announced Sunday. Dillard's team had a losing record in the last four of his seven seasons as coach, and the Dukes were eliminated Friday in the first round of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament.

In 2000, James Madison tied for the regular season CAA championship and Dillard was named the conferences coach of the year.
Dillard, who played at JMU in the 1970s, formerly was a head coach at Indiana State. He was also an assistant at Georgia Tech, California and Maryland.
