Lickliter leads Chrysler Classic

TUCSON, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Defending champion Frank Lickliter fired a 9-under-par 63 Thursday that gave him a two-stroke lead after one round of the Chrysler Classic of Tucson.

John Daly, meanwhile, continued his excellent play with a 67.

Lickliter was two in front of Carlos Franco, Steve Allan, Mark Hensby and Per-Ulrik Johansson. Olin Browne, Harrison Frazar, Bill Glasson and Angel Cabrera were three off the pace.

Daly won his first PGA Tour event in nine years two weeks ago in San Diego. He backed that up with a solid finish last week in suburban Los Angeles.

Daly has moved into the top 10 on the money list and to No. 64 in the world golf rankings. If he remains in the top 10 in earnings or reaches the top 50 in the world rankings during the next month, he will qualify for the Masters.
