Mularkey was named coach of the Buffalo Bills last week.

"Ken has been a valuable and loyal member of our staff for the past three years and he has earned this opportunity," Steelers coach Bill Cowher said. "His bright offensive mind and familiarity with the offense and our personnel made him a natural for the position."

Mularkey, 41, was an assistant with the New York Jets, Cleveland and Baltimore before being hired by the Steelers.

The Steelers also announced offensive line coach Russ Grimm will have the added title of assistant head coach.

Grimm has spent the last three years with the Steelers after 19 years as an assistant coach and player at Washington.
