IOC tests find no THG

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Retesting of the samples collected during the 2002 Salt Lake City Games showed no traces of the designer drug THG, the IOC announced Wednesday.

The decision to retest the samples of the anabolic steroid tetrahydrogestrinone was made by the IOC executive board on Dec. 4, based on advice from experts who confirmed that it was legally and scientifically possible to do so.

The findings back up the results obtained by the International Association of Athletics Federations, the International Swimming Federation, the International Rowing Federation and the International Tennis Federation following the retesting of samples from previous competitions.

"These scientific findings are reassuring and confirm my initial gut feeling that THG was used on a limited scale," IOC President Jacques Rogge said. "Nevertheless, the IOC will remain vigilant and will continue to deploy all means and resources to fight against doping."
