Flames' Kobasew out with bad shoulder

CALGARY, Alberta, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Already without a pair of goaltenders and a trio of centers, the Calgary Flames are expected to miss rookie right wing Chuck Kobasew for a week.

Kobasew suffered a right shoulder injury in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche and did not play Saturday against the Vancouver Canucks. He was also expected to miss Calgary's upcoming three-game road trip.

"I don't know how long he is going to get out," Flames assistant coach Rich Preston said. "It's fairly swollen right now."

Kobasew has two goals and seven assists in 32 games.

The Flames learned goaltender Miika Kiprusoff will be out four to six weeks with a sprained left MCL. Kiprusoff, who was injured in Monday's 2-2 tie against the Minnesota Wild, is 11-3-2 with a .941 save percentage and 1.48 goals-against average since being acquired from San Jose on Nov. 16.

Roman Turek, Calgary's No. 1 goalie last season, has been out since Oct. 18 with a torn knee ligament. Centers Blair Betts is out with a shoulder injury, Craig Conroy, a knee injury and Steve Reinprecht is out with a bad ankle.
