Orioles reach agreement with RHP DeJean

BALTIMORE, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- The Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday signed righthander Mike DeJean to a one-year contract.

DeJean was 5-8 with 19 saves and a 4.68 ERA in a career-high 76 games with the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals last season.

The 33-year-old DeJean is the third free agent signed by Baltimore this month, joining shortstop Miguel Tejada and catcher Javy Lopez.

Since breaking into the majors with the Colorado Rockies in 1997, DeJean has appeared in at least 54 games each season.

Primarily a middle reliever and set-up man in four years with Colorado and in his first season with Milwaukee, DeJean became the Brewers closer in 2002, converting 27 of 30 save opportunities.

DeJean had 18 saves with Milwaukee last season before being traded to St. Louis on Aug. 22. He was used mostly in a set-up role in 18 games with the Cardinals.
