COL BKB: Ga Tech 86, Va Commonwealth 65

ATLANTA, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- B.J. Elder had 16 of his 17 points in the first half Monday as No. 3 Georgia Tech beat Virginia Commonwealth, 86-65, to go 12-0 for the first time.

Georgia Tech extended its longest winning streak since taking 15 in a row in 1985-86 and bettered the 11-0 start of the 1962-63 team, which went 21-5 but did not receive a postseason berth.

The Yellow Jackets' 26.4-point margin of victory coming in was second-biggest in the country. Georgia Tech has won eight games by at least 20 points.

Marvin Lewis scored 19 points and Jarrett Jack added 17 for the Yellow Jackets, who opened a 48-25 halftime lead and built the advantage to 31 points early in the second half.

Dominic Jones and Michael Doles each scored 15 points for the Rams (4-7).
