NHL: Calgary 2, Edmonton 1

EDMONTON, Alberta, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Jarome Iginla scored one goal and set up the other and Miikka Kiprusoff came within 5:06 of a shutout Sunday as Calgary beat Edmonton, 2-1.

Iginla's unassisted tally 8:06 into the third period turned out to be the game-winner. After chipping the puck past Oilers defenseman Jason Smith at his own blue line, Iginla moved down the right side and fired a slap shot from the top of the faceoff circle into the top right corner of the net.

It was his 12th goal of the season and eighth in 13 games this month.

Kiprusoff stopped just eight shots over the first two periods but lost his shutout bid during a power play when Mike York came out from behind the net and jammed the puck past the Finnish goaltender.

Tommy Salo made 19 saves for Edmonton, which has just three wins in its last 17 games (3-10-4).
