Gustafson to play in men's tourney

IBUSUKI, Japan, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Sophie Gustafson will be the next female golfer to compete in a professional men's event.

The 29-year-old Swede has agreed to play the Japan Tour's Casio World Open later this month, replacing Se Ri Pak, who has declined to play under pressure from one of her sponsors.

Laura Davies will also be in the field for the event, which will be played Nov. 27-30.

Gustafson will become the sixth woman to compete in a pro men's event this year, joining Annika Sorenstam, Suzy Whaley, Michelle Wie, Davies and Pak, the only one to have played all four rounds.

Pak finished 10th at the SBS tournament in Korea last month against a field that was weak by PGA Tour standards.

Gustafson, who dates LPGA Tour commissioner Ty Votaw, is 18th on the LPGA money list.
