Howell leads Chrysler Championship

PALM HARBOR, Fla., Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Charles Howell shot a 5-under 66 Thursday to build a one-stroke lead over Dan Forsman after the first round of the Chrysler Championship.

Howell was in danger of vacationing early before making more than $165,000 in his last three starts to solidify his position on the money list. With the top 30 making it to next week's Tour Championship, he is 27th.

He had an eagle, five birdies and two bogeys as the course played tougher than most of those on the PGA Tour.

Jerry Kelly, Chad Campbell, Robert Gamez and Argentina's Jose Coceres shared third at 68, a stroke better than Davis Love III, Retief Goosen of South Africa, Duffy Waldorf, Steve Lowery and J.J. Henry.
