The defending NBA champions have eight internationals on their roster. In addition to Garcia, they have superstar forward Tim Duncan (U.S. Virgin Islands), centers Rasho Nesterovic (Slovenia) and Sean Marks (New Zealand), guards Manu Ginobili (Argentina), Tony Parker (France) and Shane Heal (Australia) and swingman Hedo Turkoglu (Turkey).

The 6-3 Garcia averaged nine points per game for a young Brazil team in the FIBA Tournament of the Americas. He scored nine points in the second quarter, when the Spurs broke open a close game and built a 53-41 lead. But Garcia fractured the fifth metatarsal of his left foot early in the third period.
