COL FB: Missouri 41, Nebraska 24

COLUMBIA, Mo., Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Brad Smith scored four touchdowns Saturday as the Missouri Tigers snapped a 24-game losing streak with a 41-24 win over the seventh-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Missouri (5-1) erupted for 27 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to record its first win in the series since 1978, when the Tigers defeated the then-No. 2 Cornhuskers, 35-31, in Lincoln. Missouri beat Nebraska at home for the first time since 1973.

Nebraska's 24-game winning streak over Misouri was the third-longest active streak over one opponent in Division I-A. The only longer streaks are Notre Dame's 39-game winning streak over Navy and Nebraska's 34-game run against Kansas.

The Cornhuskers, who suffered their first loss of the season, committed five turnovers on a rainy night, including four fumbles. Heading into the game, Nebraska (5-1 had allowed only seven points in the second half all year.
