Atlanta's Smoltz and Gryboski back

ATLANTA, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- The Atlanta Braves activated righthanded relievers John Smoltz and Kevin Gryboski from the 15-day disabled list.

Smoltz pitched to one batter in Saturday's 6-5 loss in 11 innings to the Florida Marlins, retiring Juan Pierre on a groundout to open the ninth.

"Just one," Braves manager Bobby Cox said. "He's perfect, good, real good. He just wanted to get one hitter out of the way."

The 15th pitcher in major league history to record 100 saves and 100 wins in his career, Smoltz was placed on the DL Aug. 27 with slight tendinitis in his pitching elbow. The Cy Young Award winner is 0-2 with 44 saves and an 0.88 ERA in 59 games.

In 526 major league games, the 36-year-old Smoltz is 163-120 with 109 saves and a 3.29 ERA.

Gryboski, 29, landed on the disabled list one day after Smoltz, with tendinitis in his pitching shoulder. He is 6-4 with a 4.10 ERA in 61 appearances.
